General Purpose Tool / Boot mode

• A protocol to communicate with the ECU’s bootloader

• Allows raw access for reading and writing

• Bypasses the operating system layer

It’s not related to the disk partition standard GPT (GUID Partition Table) used in computers.

In ECU terms, GPT mode is usually invoked via:

• Bench programming adapters

• Specific boot pins or jumper sequences

• Bootloaders exposed via diagnostic links

This is advanced work normally done by trained tuners.
