What it is

Mercedes-Benz W204 W207 W212 ELV ESL Steering Lock Emulator is a small control module that replaces a faulty ESL/ELV (Electronic Steering Lock) unit in Mercedes vehicles.

In these models, the steering lock is part of the anti-theft and start authorization system. When it fails, common symptoms include:

  How it works

  The emulator does not repair the original lock. Instead, it:

  • Simulates the electronic signals of a working steering lock
  • “Tricks” the car’s EIS (ignition system) into thinking the ESL is OK
  • Allows the engine to start normally even if the original ESL is dead
